Blues centre Rene Ranger has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

Ranger sustained the injury towards the end of the first half during the Blues' 15-point win over the Sharks on the weekend.

It is a further blow to the Blues, who last week lost young flanker Blake Gibson due to a hand injury and are set to lose Rieko Ioane to New Zealand's rugby seven's side.

They currently sit on the bottom of the New Zealand conference, but 11th in the overall Super Rugby standings.
