Queensland Reds recruit Caleb Timu will the miss the rest of the season, after scans confirmed he has ruptured his ACL.

Timu sustained the injury at training on Wednesday, with the 22-year limping off the track.

On Thursday, scans revealed the full extent of the damage.

Timu recently joined the Reds on a two-year deal after playing for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL.

“It was one of those freak rugby accidents,” Reds' captain James Slipper said.

“We are all gutted for Caleb.

“It was a basic catch of the ball and when he stepped off to run the knee collapsed underneath him.”

He will undergo a full reconstruction next week.
