All Blacks captain Richie McCaw has not been cited for allegedly elbowing South Africa's Francois Louw and is free to take his place in the side to face the Wallabies in the World Cup final.

World Ruby this morning tweeted the news that the New Zealand captain has no case to answer despite vigorous debate over the incident in the 20-18 semi-final victory at Twickenham.

Footage appeared to show McCaw clipping the Springbok, who ended the contest with numerous head injuries.

However, when viewed in slow motion it became apparent that McCaw had in fact caught Louw with his hip rather than an elbow and that the contact was most likely accidental.

The 147 times-capped McCaw thus avoided a disciplinary hearing and possible suspension that would have sidelined him for next weekend’s final against Australia, victors over Argentina in the second semi-final match.
